Do you dread the nightly battle of trying to fall asleep?

You toss and turn, your brain runs through a to-do list a hundred miles long, and you suddenly remember all-the-things that you couldn’t think of throughout the day?

Sleep is such a key factor of a healthy lifestyle! It plays a major role in emotional well-being, hormone health, balancing stress, and weight management.

I’m sure you’ve seen the studies of how important sleep is, the recommendations for 7-9 hours of sleep a night, but actually getting that all-important, good sleep isn’t always easy.

With today’s constant connection to technology, sometimes it can seem nearly impossible to turn our brains off at night! (especially when you add in sugars and caffeine!).

Are you ready to:

  • take back your control over a good night’s sleep?
  • wake up in the morning feeling rested and ready for the day?
  • stop the dependence on stimulants to get through the day?

These are the essential oils and supplements I turn to for calming, turning off the brain, and getting that really good, deep sleep. (and no, I don’t use all of them at once 😉)

You’re probably wondering “Why so many?! Do I need all of them?”

No, you don’t need all of them. The reason I’ve listed so many options is because our body chemistry is very different! That means the one oil that works so wonderful for me, might not work quite as good for you. Pick one to try, or maybe a mix of two or three, to see what works the best for you.

How to Use Essential Oils to Get Better Sleep

I like to start a diffuser about 30 minutes before bedtime with my choice of oils for the night (one of my favorites is Serenity, Wild Orange and Cedarwood!). This gives me time to start winding down from all the day’s activities and gives my body time to take advantage of the benefits of the essential oils.

If you don’t yet have a diffuser, you can rub the oils on the bottom of your feet, down your spine, on your pulse points, or even a couple drops on your pillow will do the trick.

If you are looking for a diffuser, you can find some great ones at Oil LifeYour Oil Tools, Amazon, and of course, doTERRA.

A great beginner choice would be Lavender, Adaptiv, and Wild Orange

If you’re having trouble sleeping through the night, you can’t fall asleep, or you want to see if you can get better sleep . . . give a couple of these essential oils a try!

Serenity Restful Complex Softgels

While I absolutely love using my essential oils to help me sleep better at night, I can’t talk about better sleep without mentioning the Serenity Softgels!

The doTERRA Serenity Restful Complex is a powerful product that contains Lavender essential oil, Lemon Balm, Passionflower, German Chamomile, and L-Theanine, which are known for their relaxing benefits.

All these ingredients are encased in a vegetarian softgel and work together to create a natural formula that can encourage restful sleep, help make a difference in the quality of sleep and the ease of going to sleep, without leaving you feeling groggy the next day!

The essential oils alone can make an incredible difference in your sleep, but when you combine them with the Serenity Softgels, you’ll really get that extra deep relaxing sleep you’re looking for.

On a side note: the Serenity Softgels aren’t just for better sleep. This formula doesn’t make you ‘sleepy’ it calms and relaxes the body making it ideal for dealing with stress, anxiousness, and calming the nervous system.

How to use the Serenity Softgels

  1. take 1-2 about 20 to 30 minutes before bedtime to help with sleep
  2. take with you when you travel to help you get refreshing sleep away from home
  3. take them throughout the day for calming the nervous system, stress, or anxious feelings

Improving Sleep Quality

Of course, there are other things that we can do to help us wind down and get ready for bed in the evenings. I’m sure you’ve heard most of them a million times, but maybe there will be a new one you haven’t heard before, or it will remind you of one you were wanting to try.

  • turn off screens (tv, phone, computer) 30 minutes before you’re planning to go to bed
  • turn the thermostat cooler and make sure your room is nice and dark
  • follow a consistent schedule to train your brain it’s time to sleep
  • create a relaxing bedtime routine – try journaling, reading, or a warm bath (with essential oils)
  • avoid caffeine and alcohol at least 3-5 hours before bedtime
  • get some sunlight in the morning. 15- 30 minutes is all it takes to help reset your circadian rhythms

Have you tried any of these essential oils or tips to improve your sleep? I’d love to hear what you used and how it worked for you.
